About This Book
This book (in Spanish) is organized in 14 chapters and two appendixes covering statistical methods for one, two and more than two quantitative and qualitative variables and instructions for the use of commercial and own written computer programs. Initial chapters contain methods for univariate data: Stem and leaf diagrams, dispersion and level resistant summaries, box and whiskers diagramas, kernel density estimators and data transformation (re-expression). Subsequently, the methods to process two quantitative variables are aproached: resistant line fitting based on medians and resistant nonlinear smoothing. Data from one quantitative with two qualitative variables combination can be analized by means of Coded tables and median polish. The analysis of more than two quantitative variables (multivariate methods) includes matrix scatterplots. In this version topics from confirmatory analysis have been included: confidence intervals and hipothesis testing, besides the comparison of more than two data groups by analysis of variance both, one and two (fixed) factors with interaction. An introduction to multivariate methods for two vector of means and a test to verify homoscedasticity for multiple variables comparison have been included. As well as in the former (printed) version, two chapters have been dedicated to present basic instructions for using the statistical packages Stata and MINITAB. The appendixes present some of the Stata commands used to draw and calculate the graphics and tables included in the text, in addition of a simple tutorial for the original software written as a part of the book: AED2010. These topics can be used as a complement in pre and graduate courses of Statistics, Biostatistics, Biometry or as an elemental knowledge adquisition of the included methods text. Due to the generality of the themes considered, this material may be useful in related areas such as health and behavioural sciences and even for social and economic disciplines.
